International Hospice and Palliative Care Internships

Through our affiliation with Global Partners in Care, the Center for Education & Advance Care Planning is able to offer a number of international internships focused on the delivery of palliative care in developing countries. These internships give motivated, compassionate undergraduate, public health, medical/other clinical students, and graduate students, the opportunity to make an impact in a low-resource setting.

While primarily research- and/or clinically oriented, these internships can be tailored to the needs of the individual student, program or institution. For example, many of our partners need assistance in developing social media programs and advocacy initiatives. The minimum full-time commitment is four weeks, with a commitment of six to eight weeks preferred. Longer internship opportunities may be available in some locations.

Internship options may include contributing to existing programs, assisting in developing new programs, developing advocacy and educational resources and assisting with training programs.

A domestic internship with our Global Partners in Care affiliate offers a student with a strong interest in international health policies/palliative care the opportunity to develop professional skills in research, analysis, organization and communications, particularly writing. Areas of focus may include researching and developing white papers, position papers, concept notes and briefs on a variety of topics related to advocacy for and delivery of palliative care. For example:

  • Need for morphine in palliative care
  • Benefits of training nurse/clinical officer to prescribe morphine
  • Advocacy of national palliative care programs
